COVID19 Solidarity Hospital project
Hospital Universitario Austral, together with all the other academic units of the Austral University, has decided to sum up its healthcare and educational experience with the Public Health System and create a High Complexity Hospital for the exclusive care of patients with COVID -19 without healthcare insurance.
The COVID Solidarity Hospital will be located in existing facilities that will be modified. We will have a total of 60 beds for Intensive Care and Intermediate Therapy patients. The patients that will be treated in this hospital will be those that do not have medical insurance, and are referred from the public health system.
Given the nature of the Austral Hospital and the University as a whole, we do not have the financial resources to face this project. That is why we have launched the search for donations to fund the investment and its operational management. Simultaneously, we are convening health professionals and staff for support areas who voluntarily want to join this initiative.
If the clinical evolution of these patients were in accordance with the average that is being verified in the rest of the world, with this project we would be covering the need for High Complexity in a population of 10,000 infected people.
It was inaugurated with the presence of the President of the Nation, the Mayor of Pilar, the Chief of the Cabinet of Ministers, and the Ministers of Health of the Nation and of the Province. “We all need each other to be better. And here what I could see is that those who need the most, and those who have the most, like the entrepreneurs who made it possible with their contributions, can join with the State to make a fairer society. And that’s what it’s about. So much pain that we have to live with the pandemic, gives us that opportunity, «said President Fernández.
